Non-equilibrium conductivity at quantum critical points

چکیده

Quantum criticality provides an important route to revealing universal non-equilibrium behaviour. A canonical example of a quantum critical point is the Bose-Hubbard model, which we study under the application of an electric field. A Boltzmann transport formalism and ǫ-expansion are used to obtain the non-equilibrium conductivity and current noise. This approach allows us to explicitly identify how a universal non-equilibrium steady state is maintained, by identifying the rate-limiting step in balancing Joule heating and dissipation to a heat bath. It also reveals that the non-equilibrium distribution function is very far from a thermal distribution.

Quantum critical transport in clean graphene

We describe electrical transport in ideal single-layer graphene at zero applied bias. There is a crossover from collisionless transport at frequencies larger than kBT/! (T is the temperature) to collision-dominated transport at lower frequencies. The d.c. conductivity is computed by the solution of a quantum Boltzmann equation. Due to a logarithmic singularity in the collinear scattering amplit...

Non - zero temperature transport near quantum critical points

We describe the nature of charge transport at non-zero temperatures (T ) above the two-dimensional (d) superfluid-insulator quantum critical point. We argue that the transport is characterized by inelastic collisions among thermally excited carriers at a rate of order kBT/h̄. This implies that the transport at frequencies ω kBT/h̄ is in the hydrodynamic, collision-dominated (or ‘incoherent’) regi...

Entropy Flow in Near-Critical Quantum Circuits

Near-critical quantum circuits close to equilibrium are ideal physical systems for asymptotically large-scale quantum computers, because their low energy collective excitations evolve reversibly, effectively isolated from microscopic environmental fluctuations by the renormalization group. Entropy flows in near-critical quantum circuits near equilibrium as a locally conserved quantum current, o...

The quasi-normal modes of quantum criticality

Abstract We study charge transport of quantum critical points described by conformal field theories in 2+1 spacetime dimensions. The transport is described by an e↵ective field theory on an asymptotically antide Sitter spacetime, expanded to fourth order in spatial and temporal gradients. The presence of a horizon at non-zero temperatures implies that this theory has quasi-normal modes with com...
